Review
by Emma Shane
This is quite an interesting little album, if you
like musicals then it is worth hearing, and indeed worth having, especially if
you want to get a flavour of the various JAY/TER recordings, without
buying all the recordings. In general, while the performances are not
necessarily the best performances ever of the songs, they are by no means bad. They
are of a high standard and very listenable to. This point is very much
illustrated by songs such as The Best Things In Life Are Free and
Anything You Can Do. I
enjoyed hearing them, and for the sort of price this album retails at it is
worth having.
For me the high spot of the album is I Get A Kick Out Of You, mainly because I get a kick out of the fact that it is sung by the glorious singer of Cole Porter songs, Louise Gold. It is a real treat to hear her sing such a great Cole Porter song. She sings is, as one would expect, with strength, complete conviction, and decidedly Merman-like sound.
