Review
by Emma Shane, 9
February 2005
While
I found this album very enjoyable to listen to, I couldn’t help feeling that
all the songs were better represented on other Muppet albums. There are also
some startling omissions (for example: The Muppet Show Theme Tune,
and the classic We Got Us). Of course I particularly liked Jim
Henson’s own wonderful original rendition of Rainbow Connection
(I can only think of two other artistes who can do that song anything like as
well as he can), and the award winning The First Time It Happens.
I also thoroughly enjoyed, as usual, the At The Dance segment.
Though it was nice to hear The Rhyming Song, I could not help
noticing that part of it (notably Annie Sue’s main verse “I left my knees in
your car/ My laundry’s ready at half past one”) had been cut. I can’t help
feeling that the sweet-but-ambitious young pig might not have been too
impressed by that, I am sure her fans certainly won’t be.
All
in all, while this is a fun album to have if you happen to come across it, its
not really worth going out of ones way for. Except for fans who are such
serious collectors they want to have everything, most people would be much
better off looking for the more commonly findable albums that this songs have
appeared on, often in a much more complete form.
